How to make Sugar Popcorn

Children love popcorn, especially Sugar popcorn. It’s a great treat for children, and fun movie nights with friends and family. You can add to your child’s lunch box. The good thing is, you don’t need to have a popcorn maker to make yummy popcorn. Your regular cooking pot can do the magic.

1 tablespoon Vegetable Oil

1 teaspoon of margarine.

1/2 a cup of corn kernels

1/4 to 1/2 a cup of granulated sugar (sweeten to taste)

(Optional- Salt to taste)

Step 1- Pour vegetable oil and margarine into the pot and drop three kernels into the pot. These three kernels will be your indicator for when the oil is hot. Cover with the lid and set over medium-high heat.

Step 2- When you hear one of the kernels pop, uncover the pot and pour in the rest of the kernels, sugar, and salt. Quickly stir everything together to coat all the kernels and cover the pot

Step 3- Shake the pan occasionally as the popcorn starts to pop, and then more frequently and vigorously as the popping increases. Rest the pot on the burner every few seconds to maintain the heat. (NB: Make sure you don’t burn the popcorn, if you smell smoke remove from heat).

Step 4- When the popping sound slows down (after 2-3mins), take it off the heat. Don’t wait for every kernel to pop or you’ll end up burning the popcorn. Pour your popcorn into a bowl and enjoy this sweet snack while it’s warm.
